Housekeeping Ladies square

Our Housekeeping

Please meet Beata, Grazyna, Anna, Swieta and Moni. These ladies, led by our head Housekeeper Elena (third from the left) form part of our relatively new in-house housekeeping team. Back in February we decided to stop outsourcing this service, and to create our own team of housekeeping ninjas. At the time, one of the ladies from the external cleaning company was from Poland. When word got out that we were ()

The Monkey Loooves
Father Carpenter Coffee Brewers

Krésten Thøgersen relocated from Melbourne to Berlin for one reason – to open a cafe that people left happier than when they arrived. His mission statement: To up the quality of life. Krésten opened Father Carpenter Coffee Brewers in Mitte in January 2015, and so far it looks like his purpose is being achieved. After spending some time in Berlin in 2009, Krésten felt that the city was missing a certain something in relation to ()

The Monkey Loooves

It was sometime in the mid 1990s and the place was New York. Kai Bröer was visiting from Berlin and stumbled across a cafe called Newsbar. They sold coffee and bagels, had an extensive selection of newspapers and magazines, and televisions mounted on the wall screening CNN. This was when cafes could be a place for people to go and read the paper. Before smartphones and iPads, wandering down to ()

The monkey loooves

It’s an exciting time to be in Berlin. People are arriving here from all over, and bringing with them the ideas they have about the things they are passionate about. They’re coming here, taking chances, and shaking things up! To our eyes, this is resulting in a refreshing culture emerging of small, independent, family run businesses who are not afraid to do things their own way. We wanted to take ()

Paula square

The singer
In our midst

If you’ve ordered a coffee at our bar around 6:00am on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday over the past four years, chances are, you were served by Paula. As is often the case with a lot of folk working in the service industry, making a cappuccino is not Paula’s only talent. As well as speaking five languages, she’s a classically trained opera singer and is about to embark on one ()

This Is

Inga started working at the hotel in the summer of 2010, just a few months after we opened. It almost didn’t happen…she was a bit disillusioned with the hotel industry and was looking at other employment possibilities. But her friend heard about a position in reception at the new hotel on Warschauerstrasse and persuaded her to apply for it. Inga did, and she got the job. Not long after, Inga was with ()

Celebrating Efterklang’s new Album Piramida
Wednesday * from 7pm

The roots were first laid in 2010, when the band first saw photographs of a forgotten settlement called Piramida slowly dying on Spitsbergen, an island midway between the Norwegian mainland and the North Pole. This former Russian mining facility was once home to a thousand people, and was abandoned in January 1998, almost overnight. Casper, Mads and Rasmus visited Piramida in August 2011 with no pre-conceived ideas and not a ()
